This was a profound revelation of truth presented in a sermon by our beloved deacon. I can only restate in my own words what was so well spoken.
What Jesus actually said was, “Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out.” In other words, “Do without.” To follow Jesus is not a life of prosperity or comfort. Instead, it is a life of love even when it hurts; even when that means doing without.
Next time you think of things that you simply must have, hear the voice of Jesus saying, “Do without.” Prosperity is a false gospel. The true gospel is to take care of your neighbor the same way you take care of yourself.
The role of a deacon is to represent Christ in service. I am grateful that our deacon has accomplished that role well. Now go and do likewise.
