Last night, it struck me how spiritual growth is not a linear forward movement. Moments of recollection took me back to happy times and painful days. As a spiritual director I would ask, “Where do you see Jesus in that?”
Life may be rockin’ on. Life could be interrupted. Dreams may be lost. There are seasons where it’s good to look back on such times past. Taking an intentional break from life in order to reflect often leads to a season of great spiritual growth.
Progress along the journey with Jesus includes going backwards to retrace your steps. Where was Jesus in those parts of your journey that come to mind when you hear a familiar song, watch a movie or read a good book? Take note of those times and pay them a visit. What memories take you backward that could help you move forward?
