We had a quiet day retreat at our church. In silent contemplation, I heard the wind rushing around through the trees and over the Tudor building. Gusts swirled like flames that carried off all clutter. They drew my thoughts upward into heavenly realms.
I keep a rose scented candle in my prayer room. The fragrance of roses has its own spiritual story to tell. But the burning flame reminds me that if I want to offer the sweet aroma of Christ, then I must allow myself to be consumed by fire.
These words came to me while contemplating the wind in silence:
A Mystical Fire
Lift me up to heaven, Lord.
Raise me up with fire and flame.
Guide me through each burning gate, Lord.
Hide me in your Name.
Consume me in refining fire, Lord.
Let me carry your flame.
Fill me with coals from your altar, Lord.
Make me pure for hire.
Prove me and approve me, Lord.
Let me be changed to fire.
